ABOUT OUR LOGO

Keya Unci (Grandmother Turtle), has many representations, including a long prosperous life.

The Lakota identified 13 months in a year because of the 13 new moons; each moon has 28 days from one new moon to the next. As we count the scales on her back, we see that Keya reflects natural phenomena- she has 13 large scales on her back and 28 small scales around the shell.

She also represents the continent that we reside on, Turtle Island.
